Flapper*
Your existing flapper will be removed when you install the FAE. A Flapper prevents water from surging into the engine's exhaust system. Fresh Air Exhaust prevents this water surge even without a Flapper. There are thousands of boats, with FAE, with no flappers, no problems.

If your boat's engine is under warranty we recommend this flapper option so as to not inadvertently void the warranty (some warranties require a properly functioning flapper).

You may also choose this flapper option for peace of mind. There is no performance change with the replacement flapper installed.

Removal-Installation Kit*
You will be removing your exhaust outlet and replacing it with the FAE. Our Removal - Installation Kit includes the supplies needed to make this MUCH easier: Debond (adhesive remover to loosen the seal of the existing exhaust outlet), wooden wedges (to help with removal), and 3M 5200 marine adhesive (this is the industry standard).

The 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive comes in two versions.

Fast Cure - Cures in 48 hours. This is the industry standard.

Slow Cure - takes a week to cure. It is significantly stronger than the fast cure and exceeds the industry standard.

Otherwise they apply and clean up the same. On both, the boat must remain still and above 40 degrees Fahrenheit or 5 degrees Celsius while curing. You will also need to provide either acetone or mineral spirits for the clean-up. This 3M marine adhesive is in a cartridge so you will need a cartridge dispenser (caulk gun). You will also need masking tape and rags.

Improve your boat's exhaust system.*
Your boat has a restrictive baffle in place of a muffler. This baffle significantly restricts the engine exhaust flow and increases exhaust back pressure. It is not required but we recommend replacing the baffle when you install your FAE. Our baffle replacement is simply a straight tube. It is a bit of a pain to remove; a strong lean teenager is the ideal helper.
